Leah, as usual, you make perfect sense. When Trump keeps saying " Iran wants to make a deal" all the time, he undermines his own position. It would be far more effective to say " Iran DOESN'T want to make a deal" and then hammer them while they are in this weakened state. And finish this one and for all. If the really wanted to make a deal, they would have done so by now. All this drama just plays into the Iranian game plan.
Sad news about Lindsey Graham but happy to hear his sister is stepping in for him to finish out his term. She'll make him proud. I don’t believe that Israel is committing genocide. But, I do understand why a lot of people are upset by the fact that for every Israeli (1,200), killed on October 7, more than 15 children (18,000+), have been killed during Israeli attacks in Gaza. A total of more than 72,000 total killed. I don’t know what a good solution is.
Who knows what Mr. Trump will say, but if he says this will be like his previous speeches, then he should save his breath if it’s on election interference. The only thing worse than a 79-year-old president whining about 2020 is an 80-year-old president whining…especially an out-of-touch billionaire who plays the victim card. Americans struggling to buy groceries have little patience for that.
If he wants to reform elections (which he’s right in wanting to do), he needs an entirely different strategy. The current legislation is going nowhere. It can’t be about him. Instead he has to make the argument how secure elections are better for (gasp!) Democrats. If he wants a lasting legacy, better than buildings and airports that can simply be renamed later, he needs to explain how some states have figured out how results are known within 3 hours after precinct closures, how after Bush v Gore’s hanging chads, Florida hasn’t had an election controversy since, and how election transparency and efficiency is better for everyone. It’s not hard. It’s not rocket science. But he needs a major tonal shift. It can’t be about him. It needs to be about us.
Great War Notes tonight. Trump is forgetting that what he wants to be real and talk about isn’t what America cares about or wants to hear. I think there are plenty who are tired of the grift, tired of the behavior and tired of bs.
