Re Israel: Anti-Israel and antisemitism have been growing since the 1982 Israel-Lebanon war. We have two generations who know little about Islamic actions and who view Israelis as an occupying force who initiated all the unrest. One of my nephews is a poster child of this.
Re Iran: inconvenient to the narrative of Western civilization’s evils, so its role in so much of the unrest and radicalism of Muslims is played down (see evils of western civilization).
Re debt: The inability of the presidents and congresses to act responsibly and control spending would inevitably lead to an inability to sell more debt at low rates. The default risk is now public and on display. Of course interest rates would go up. It’s Econ 101. Too bad most elected representatives never took an Econ class. You’re on point with this. Stay on this. Trivia point: The German mark was more coveted than the British pound as the reserve currency in the 1920s. Then it wasn’t and things didn’t go well. History is easy to repeat sometimes.

On interest rates…. I can’t sell my 3 story home directly on the Bay with a 60 ft dock because of interest rates and the FEMA flood zone. I can’t give this home away. Nobody wants to pay over 7% interest rates on a home. Everything is getting ridiculous and I don’t know what to do anymore.

I was in high school during the 70's, graduated in '76. Student bussing was everywhere, and campus race riots did happen at school sports events, occasionally, in Phoenix. Iran Shah overthrow, Iran Hostages, gas lines. It was a little chaotic, but nowhere near the fever pitch of today. And I thrived and succeeded, same as my sister. Taught by our parents, like our neighborhood friends. Maybe Rose colored glasses.
